Week Twenty-Seven

We had a busy week this week! We went to Kiira and Jason’s wedding. It was great celebrating with them. We met some pretty awesome people during the reception, too.

We celebrated your birthday by going to lunch at O’Charley’s. Then the next day we went out to Tommy and Kathy’s for an all-day paintball game to celebrate your birthday with friends. Kathy, Tommy, Jonathan, Karin, Marielle, Anson, Garrett and the kids were all there. Kathy, Marielle, and I stayed inside while all of you guys & Karin played paintball. The girls and I laughed a lot and had a blast.

We also got to hang out with Marielle and Corey one day this week. It was a rare thing that we have vowed to do more often.

It’s great to be surrounded by people that we love, that love us, and make us laugh. I’ve always known the importance of having friends but I definitely think that what we need in our friends changes over the years. It’s great to have the supportive, fun-loving friends we have right now. They really contribute greatly to our lives.

Things to remember from this week: Friends are the family you choose… and they are awesome.

Conversations with my Husband

While driving down the road:

Me: *turns radio to a station* Oh, it’s that song you like! It’s by Phillip Phillips. His parents must have hated him. (talking about his name)

Matt: (nothing for a minute) Oh, is this Mumford and Sons?

Me: No. I literally just had a whole conversation with you about this. I just told you it was Phillip Phillips. And then I said his parents must’ve hated him because they named him Phillip Phillips.

Matt: He’s not from Mumford & Sons?

Me: (laughing) Nooooo! He’s Phillip Phillips!

Matt: I thought he was one of the ‘sons’ or something.

Me: (dying of laughter) Nooooooo, he is not one of the sons!

Matt & Me: (So much laughter!)

The end.

Week Twenty-Six

We went camping together for the first time. It “monsooned” while we were there so we had to come back a day early. It was just so nice to get away from technology- even if it was only for a day. We went with Kayla, Chris, and the kids. It was fun--- even with the rain. Next time I think you and I should find a place to camp by ourselves. Hopefully next time I’ll get to actually canoe!

Yesterday we celebrated being married for six months. We went to the Dave Matthews Band concert in Charlotte. It was AMAZING. He opened with “Satellite” and then immediately played “Ants” afterward. It was our first time seeing DMB in concert and the first concert we’ve gone to together. It was also our first mini-road trip. It was so much fun. Going to that concert just felt like being surrounded by a bunch of hippie-looking family. Everyone was dancing and high-fiving each other. I couldn’t stop smiling while we were there because there was just such a happy feeling in the air. We will definitely be going to see future shows.

You finally started school this week! We also bought a new car. That relieved so much stress!

Didn’t I just write last week that good things were in the works?!

Things to remember from this week: the rainbow that appeared at the Dave Matthews Band concert and the feel-good feeling of actually getting to go on these adventures together.

Week Twenty-Five

This week we celebrated a year of being together and also got a surprise. My amazing former supervisor at Greenville Literacy, Laura, is giving us concert tickets to see Dave Matthews Band next week! This weekend we’ll be going camping with Kayla and Chris. It’ll be our first camping trip together. It’ll be nice to get away from technology for a couple of days. Hopefully I’ll get to canoe while we’re out there. It’s been so long since I’ve been canoeing and I miss it. I’m so excited!

I also found out that I definitely have my site for AmeriCorps! I’ll be working at the Urban League of the Upstate. I’ll start training in less than a month. I’m so ready to start. This will be a great learning experience and I’m so happy to be serving the community through AmeriCorps.

July 14, 2014

We have been together for a year today! In just over a week we will have been married for six months! It almost seems ridiculous to just be celebrating a year of being together.

It just feels like we’ve always been together. So much has changed in a year. We’ve moved like 3.5 times. We’ve both left jobs that we didn’t really care for and found new jobs. I’m back to working on my bachelor’s degree and you start school in a few days. We’ve added Alistair and Lucius Crowley to our family.

I feel like we’re finally headed in the right direction. There’s no one else that I would rather take the journey with than you. I know that I couldn’t have chosen a better partner for myself… and I’m pretty certain you feel the same. I love you so much and I couldn’t be happier to have you as my husband.

Week Twenty-Four

This week you finally were able to enroll in school. You are now officially a college student! You start in less than two weeks! I’m so proud of you. When I think of how far you’ve come just since we’ve been together it amazes me. You’ve made so many positive changes. You’re such a good worker and I know you’ll be a great student, too. You’re just so smart. If you stick with your current plan you’ll have two degrees in two-and-a-half years. You are also hoping that after being in school for a couple of months you’ll be able to become an electrician. If you do that then you could possibly take on more responsibilities in your current company.

I interviewed with my potential site for AmeriCorps and everything went really well. I will hopefully find out in a few days if that’s definitely where I’ll be.’
We have some awesome changes coming up and I can’t wait.

Things to remember from this week: Be present. We have a lot of great things that are coming up and plans that we have but it’s important for us to just enjoy this time together just as it is each day. We will always have goals and want better things but we will never be in this place again.

Week Twenty-Three

I was pretty sick this week for no apparent reason. I had these horrible headaches that made me feel like crap. You took awesome care of me. You didn’t complain while I was being all lazy and whiney because I felt awful. Instead, you helped me and you made me laugh when laughter was the furthest thing from my mind. At one point I woke up from being passed out on the couch to see you laughing and taking pictures of our cats. I laughed so hard. You’re adorable. There were seriously like twenty pictures of the cats that you took on the phone.

I’m pretty excited because I got the call from the people at AmeriCorps letting me know a possible site that I’d be working at. I interview with the site next week. I’m really happy about it and I can’t wait.

Overall, you made a tough week for me bearable. I think it’s important to mention the hard times because when it’s hard that’s when I know how great of a partner I picked.

Things to remember from this week: Being weird is completely normal in this house. (Example: putting our lips together and saying words--- It was hilarious! We laughed so hard.)
